Big Fat Indian Wedding

   

We are in Bangalore for Ani and Erin’s Wedding.

The Haldi Ceremony

We wore yellow to join in a traditional Hindu Haldi ceremony.

Turmeric, being associated with fertility and prosperity, is mixed with sandlewood and coconut milk to form a paste of haldi and applied on the bride and the groom’s body before their wedding.

   

 

Later some applied simple mehendi (henna tattoos) to their hands while the bride was painted extensively.

 

The Sangeet

The sangeet is a musical party celebrating the union of two families.  We danced the night away.  The Australians and New Zealanders performed well but were overshadowed by the Indian families.
